It’s a little hard to explain why the purchasing of baby things before baby is actually close to term bothers me so much. But, honestly, and most obviously, nobody has ANY IDEA what size this kid is going to end up being in roughly 7 months. Babies are usually late and large in my family, due to the women in my family having all inherited fantastic birthing hips that are able to give their children an evolutionary edge in the form of extra time in the womb.

I’m also one of those people who is aware of the very real possibility that this pregnancy may not remain viable through the entire term. There are a great many things that could happen in the future, and a loss of pregnancy is one of them. I don’t want to have to deal with all this baby shit my mother-in-law has seen fit to give us if that does end up happening. Save the lion’s share of it for when the kid is successfully existing independently of my circulatory system, thanks.

EDIT: what I could really use is some maternity stuff. like pants. nothing fits anymore. help.

#grumpy post

Dear Mother-in-Law,

I know you’re trying to be nice, but why the hell would the sky not precipitating have any kind of influence on my nausea or fatigue? No. I’m not feeling better just because it’s sunny. Also, please stop telling me you “know” the baby is going to be a boy. Please stop buying outfits for a being that is currently an inch long. Please travel back in time and not sign us up for those baby mailers because all those fuckers do is sell our contact information to diaper companies, formula companies, insurance companies, etc. and like hell do I need that shit.

Please just stop helping,

A Venomously Grumpy Daughter-in-Law

"Got your results back from your two blood tests, and, good news: you didn’t miscarry."

That’s…? Not what I was getting a blood test for? But um… thanks?

Happy Week 8

Been having a very hard time with eating lately. It seems that to keep something in my stomach, I need to eat a snack every 2 hours or so. If I don’t, my stomach gets queasy as hell, and all food in the world becomes absolutely revolting. If I don’t eat something promptly when I’ve got an empty stomach, the nausea gets progressively worse and my blood sugar plummets, leaving me with less agency than a limp noodle. The first meal of the morning is the absolute worst, because my stomach has had all night to empty and get hungry. Mostly I just lay in bed and feel wibbly for a few hours. ._.

Here’s the first baby picture at 7 weeks, 5 days! According to the ultrasound nurse, baby’s been growing for about 6 weeks, 6 days, which moves my due date from September 16th to September 22nd instead.
The reason my first ultrasound was so early was to check that my pregnancy wasn’t ectopic, and that baby had implanted in the uterus, rather than anywhere else. The nurse wasn’t allowed to give us an actual diagnosis in that regard, but really. If it had been an ectopic, we would have been sent back to my doctor right away. Why would she have given us a picture and let us listen to and see a heartbeat if baby wasn’t viable?
The confirmation in visual form that yes, I am in fact pregnant, is really, really nice. Feeling pretty great right now.
EDIT: Doctor just called me after looking over the ultrasound to let me know that everything looked to be fine and told me that baby’s heart rate was 131 bpm. Neat. <3

Bonus points when pairing the empire-waist-creating belt and the blazer together. Lovely.
